Accessibility Statement

MSC are committed to helping the widest possible audience use eSubs, regardless of technology or ability. To do this we aim to meet standards and guidelines such as Level A of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities.

However, some areas are may not yet meet these standards. If you find some of the areas of eSubs difficult to use or have suggestions on how we can improve accessibility, please email support@esubs.co.uk.

The rest of this page explains some of the methods eSubs uses to encourage accessibility.

Colour Scheme

  • In order to change the colours of the navigation bar, section headings, buttons and background, please take the menu option Settings > My Settings
  • As well as the colours used for the elements previously mentioned, eSubs uses colour when displaying achievement and (for staff) internal verification results. If you find these colours hard to distinguish, please read the text within which also conveys the meaning. On many screens, hovering over an element or clicking on it will provide additional detail. These colours can be changed for all users if required.

Text Size

  • You can make use of your browser's zoom facility to enlarge or shrink all text and images shown.
  • eSubs uses responsive elements and the number of columns used on screen may change as you zoom, with items that were side by side appearing on top of each other to improve the usability.
  • Where tables are used, a scollbar will be shown if there is not enough room on your screen. As an alternative to using the scrollbar, use the Left and Right cursor keys to move sideways.

Accesskeys are shortcut keys that websites use to focus on a specific control on a page or take some action. To find out how to activate accesskeys in your browser, please look at this page or use your favourite search engine.

eSubs uses accesskeys to ensure that you can undertake all operations without a mouse.

  • Accesskey 0: Will take you to the top navigation bar (main menu).
  • Accesskey 9 Will take you to the bottom navigation bar (footer menu).
  • Accesskey 1: Will normally take you to the first input in the main part of the page.
  • Accesskey #: Other numeric accesskeys may be used to move within the page. Where this is used, the number to use will be shown at the start of a label. This is mainly used where there are sections of the page that can be opened and closed.
  • Use the Tab key to move between controls on the page.

Assignments Page

When the page is loaded, use the up and down cursor keys to select an assignment. Then press V (just V, not accesskey V) to view the assignment you have selected.

Assignment Detail Page

When you have selected a single assignment to look at in detail, the page is divided into numbered sections. As mentioned above, numeric accesskeys are used to open and close these sections. If you want to move focus to a section that is already open, press the accesskey twice.
